Polycarbonate (PC) is a high-performance thermoplastic known for its excellent impact resistance, optical clarity, and ability to withstand elevated temperatures.
Flame retardant polycarbonate (PC/FR) is a specialized grade engineered to resist ignition and slow the spread of flames in the event of a fire, making it suitable for applications requiring enhanced fire safety.
PC/FR is produced by incorporating carefully selected flame-retardant additives into the polycarbonate resin during compounding. These additives function by interrupting the combustion process—either by releasing gases that reduce oxygen concentration around the flame, forming a protective char layer that insulates the material, or through a combination of both mechanisms.
